Once again, Lisa, you have provided your readers with so much food for thought. I especially enjoyed your perspective on an old favorite, The Giving Tree. I've always been a bit troubled by its ending, feeling that the tree sacrificed too much...I'm still processing that...

On another note, I can definitely relate to the changes through the years of 'gifting.' When my children were small, it was about a multitude of toys under the tree; as they got older, they wanted clothes or bigger gifts, so fewer presents came; and now, as you describe, one daughter in particular wants experiential gifts, in part because she is less into 'stuff' and also because she and her husband live in a NYC apartment with no extra space. My younger daughter, in a house in MA with husband, two little fellows and two cats, has come full circle with plenty of toys under the tree.
